The Crushing

Guys, guys, GUYS!  Have you missed me? I haven’t blogged in like a freaking year, but twins. Okay?  I have been sharing quite a bit on Instagram, but keeping the blog alive hasn’t been much of a priority lately.  That’s about to change!

I made a vision board last week (yes, I am one of those people) and I have some major goals I want to crush this year! One of them being to get back into the blogging game. So, here I am.

What have we been up to?  Well, mostly just chasing toddlers and doing the best I can. It is a tough time for the dairy industry. Things haven’t been great for the last couple years and then BANG! COVID-19 strikes and milk prices plummet.  I think we are all feeling crushed.  Its hard, real hard, to stay positive these days. I try to do two things:

ONE. Remember my why.  Why do I farm? We don’t do what we do for the money; farming is more than that.  For many, it’s a way of life.  It’s a legacy that has been passed on for generations.  Feeding the world isn’t easy, but it is gosh darn important. Farming is something we fight for each and every day so that our children and grandchildren can have the opportunity to live a similar life style. I try to remember my why.

TWO. Know that rough patches are something we must go through to achieve greater things.  Someone shared a metaphor with me about making wine. In order to make sweet, delicious wine, grapes must be crushed.  Many may perceive the crushing process to be the end, but it is actually a place of transformation.  Through crushing, grapes are able to become the best version of themselves.

Guys.  We are going through a crushing phase.  Life freaking sucks right now and it is scary, but if we are going to come out of this stronger and better.  It seems crazy to think something good can happen from having our world fall apart, but its part of life.  We cannot control or dwell on this crushing phase.  Do your best to embrace this setback and remain optimistic.  Hang in there, dairy friends. Good things are coming our way.
